A rare example of the remarkable talent behind the wonderful Austrian Bronze hand painted bronze miniature figurines which were made around the turn of the 20th century in foundries in Austria and Vienna following a period (mid nineteenth century) when realism and and naturalism were in vogue. The bronzes were individually cast from sand molds used only once, then sculpted and cold painted by hand with several coats of a special and an unknown enamel paint that can no longer be replicated, resulting in very detailed and life like miniature figures. Our tarantula measures approximately 1.5 inches around. Not that you would ever, but quite a clever prank to play on someone! What a relief to find out it is a bronze replica and not a real tarantula!
