This lovely ring features a lovely cameo of a Nubian woman carved from banded agate. Our ring is crafted of 18K gold and the center features a Blackamoor cameo set on a band of 18K with four table cut Burmese rubies symmetrically spaced about a textured gold border, which is itself carved in a repeating S pattern. A single banded agate stone was hand-carved to form the cameo. The woman's carved profile features her smooth polished face and textured braided hair. The white background layer of agate is polished smooth. She wears a diamond accented headpiece and a diamond studded earring and choker. The band itself is polished smooth. Nubians are descended from Egypt and Sudan and are descended from the pre Classical period. We think this ring is of a Nubian princess or perhaps a Nubian Queen because of her diamond accouterments and hairstyle. Such women are valued for their strength and ability to deliver through adversity. Such jewelry is also known as Blackamoor jewelry and achieved popularity during the Victorian era because of their culturally interesting and exotic style of dress and musical traditions. The ring is a size 5.5 and is size-able. The centerpiece measures approximately ½" tall and ½" wide and rests about 1/2" above the finger. The band measures 2mm wide at the back.
