Victorian silver cuff bracelet enhanced by two color gold oak leaves and flowers. The bracelet is hallmarked for the year 1883 and was assayed in Birmingham, England. There is a maker's mark that reads JMB, for John Millward Banks. There is also an inscription on the clasp which reads JM Bank's patent. We are not certain if John Millward Banks patented just the clasp or the entire bracelet, but that the bracelet is hallmarked and has his name stamped on several places is certainly assurance of the authenticity of this our bracelet! John Millward Banks was a silversmith and supplier of goods to retailers, who first established himself in business in 1863 which continued until his death in 1911, after which his son succeeded him until 1926, whereupon the business closed. Cuff bracelets were very popular in the Victorian era, but this one is special because of its elaborate openwork as well as its extensive hallmarking. The bracelet measures 1" wide, its outer measurements are 7.5 inches in circumference, the inside measurement is 6.5 inches. Will fit an average sized wrist.
