From Italy, we offer this impeccable brooch with a carving of the English bulldog. The brooch is artfully hand carved and framed in a polished 9K bezel. The gold bezel has an Italian hallmark with a 375 purity mark for 9K gold and a lozenge with an embedded star (the star of Italy), a number (1037), indicated the maker, and a 2 letter code NA indicating the province of origin, Naples. The 375 for 9K gold indicates the brooch was made for the export market, as jewelry made in Italy for the domestic customer generally kept to an 18K standard. The brooch was made to appeal to the English market and their love for bulldogs. It is likely that a wealthy English patron commissioned an Italian artisan to sculpt this brooch in honor of his or her own much loved bulldog. In any event, the brooch is a perfect carving in relief of the English Bulldog, with his stout body and hangdog jowls. This is one adorable English bulldog.
