Lovely Victorian aqua, pink topaz and natural pearl bracelet set in 18K gold. The bracelet measures 3/4" at its widest and 2" x 2 1/4" in its interior dimensions. Imperial topaz came from the mines in Brazil in 1735. A Parisian jeweler discovered that by heating the gemstones, some golden topaz turned a beautiful pink. However, not all imperial topaz contained the trace element chromium, which is what was needed create the pink tone, Without the chromium, the topaz would become colorless and fracture. Therefore, pink topaz is understood to be an extremely rare gemstone. It was often combined with aqua gemstones, as in this bracelet, for the beautiful diversity of colors.
