Georgian pinchbeck quizzing glass chased with roses, shamrocks and thistles, the symbols for Great Britain. Also called quizzers, these decorative magnifiers were worn on long chains by both men and women. It is crafted of pinchbeck, an alloy named for Christopher Pinchbeck who formulated it in the early 18th century. Made of copper and zinc it looks like gold and does not tarnish. It measures 2 1/8" long and is 1 5/8" at its widest.
