A twentieth century Italian nautical link sterling silver link chain necklace with delicate anchor links, the anchor link is a Victorian symbol (and perhaps earlier) of strength and robustness. The name of this chain design derives from its resemblance to a ship’s chain holding the anchor. This chain can be worn everyday and is suitable for both men and women. Anchor link chains are not often found in silver. Our chain has an Italian hallmark with 925 as the purity mark (for sterling silver), the letters AR which refer to the province Arezzo, and the number 133 which identifies the silversmith. The star indicates it is of Italian origin. The spring ring is stamped with an oval with “925” inside, a purity mark for sterling silver.
Our chain is 27 inches long and can be worn doubled about the neck as a choker or as a single chain. It has a spring ring clasp that probably is too small to hold a pendant.
The silver mariner chain is shown in the images with our Shakudo locket and chain which is also available on First Dibs. It is also with our 9K and 18K gold mariner chains so you can see how mariner link chains of various metals look together. All are available on First Dibs.
