Lovely 18K Georgian pendent drop earrings of citrine, a clear, golden yellow faceted semi precious gemstone. The popularity of pendent earrings in the 1830's was spawned by the fashion for gathered hair styles and the generous décolletage of evening wear. The earrings are open backed to allow in light so they would sparkle and shimmer under candlelight, the sole method of lighting for evening activities during the Georgian era. The square cushion cut of the citrine are distinctly Georgian in style and give these fabulous earrings a modern contemporary look, but with hand carved and meticulous Georgian construction and Georgian era stones. These earrings are not to be missed! Just over an inch long, these earrings attach with a shepherds hook so they are simple to put on and remove.
