Shakudo is a magnificent form of artistry dating to the Samurai period, when highly skilled metal crafters ornamented swords, fittings and shields with beautiful inlaid designs of copper and gold for decorative or ceremonial wear. When the Samurai period officially ended in late 1800's, the artisans turned their craft to jewelry and the decorative arts. This ring is 1 3/4 inches long and with its asymmetrical design of flowers amongst leaves, is a fine example of the rich imagery and love of nature that characterized the Aesthetic movement. Ring dates to 1890.
